The Rainmaker Group is a diversified real estate development and construction company, formed in 1991 by brothers Scott and Todd Arterburn. Comprised of two main operating entities – Rainmaker Development Inc., which provides land development/project management services, and Rainmaker Contracting Inc., which provides construction services – Rainmaker began by restoring dilapidated row houses in Baltimore. Rainmaker is a licensed Maryland Home Builder (#6485) and Maryland Home Improvement Contractor (#107064).
Since its inception, Rainmaker has completed:
• Over 750 housing units (single-family homes, row houses and apartments), mostly in Maryland, Washington and Virginia, with total investment exceeding $78 million.
• Ten golf course development projects, most of which included clubhouses and maintenance buildings. These are all located on the Eastern seaboard from Virginia to northern New England, with approximately $130 million in invested funds.
• Numerous commercial projects, including a Class A office building, an art gallery and a mental health clinic.
Rainmaker has served as the principal investor in many of its projects, taking a full-risk position in the success of the endeavor. On projects where Rainmaker is not in a full-risk position, its role varies greatly, depending on the needs of the ownership group. In numerous projects, Rainmaker was retained as a fee-based developer to manage extremely complex master-planning, design, permitting and construction issues on new construction, rehabilitation and re-development projects. Clients have included several municipal governments, groups of civic leaders and local businessmen, non-profit housing agencies, and lenders which have taken over struggling projects.
