The Independence Club, designed by renowned golf course architect Tom Fazio, was the brainchild of the Virginia State Golf Association, which now calls the club home. The VSGA gave Rainmaker the responsibility of managing the final design and construction of the 27-hole golf course, 22,000 square foot clubhouse, museum and office building, and an overnight golf camp with cabins for underprivileged children. Since its opening in 2001, this $22 million facility has been repeatedly named among the best places to play by Golf Digest, and was honored as Golf World’s Readers’ Choice #3 Best Public Course in the country for 2009-2010. Independence is located outside of Richmond.
